Busy Times

Hello there, I haven't had a chance to post up what's new with me as I have been so busy. The last few months I have been getting back to teaching and been involved with a few lovely projects. I was lucky enough to be asked to take part in The V&A 'What If ?/ Scotland ' exhibition.

Produced by award winning Edinburgh based architecture and design practice 7N Architects, in partnership with Architecture & Design Scotland, What if…? / Scotland seeks to re-engage the civic role of design professionals by asking communities from across Scotland to share their hopes and dreams for the future of the places they call home.

I was selected as one of the designers to work with a local Dundee Primary school and have the conversation with them about what they would like to see in their community and their thoughts on the new community campus high school that will be built in the next few years.

They had lots of amazing ideas and what I found very interesting was how conscious they were of everyone's well being and how to include all the community in one place.

I had to create a simple illustration of their chosen idea, which was a quiet space available within the new high school. somewhere you could go when the outside world was feeling too much. The space would have comfy seating, mood enhancing lighting be sound proof but have a huge solarium balcony so to let in lots of natural light. There would also be mindful activities, such as arts & crafts, books to read and you could listen to music.

UNESCO Dundee had another amazing Design Festival this year and I was helping out at the Pigeon Palace. Where we were customising bags and clothing with iron on vinyl. Folks were using either the pre-cut shapes or just creating their own unique designs. It was soo popular with the local community and visitors to the city. In addition to the pigeon Palace there three other venues exploring design around Dundee including V&A Dundee, the Hilltown & Stobswell. The website it still live if you fancy checking it out https://2021.dundeedesignfestival.com
